The National Center for Women and Policing (NCWP) invites you to a two day conference that will be held this fall in Portland, Maine. This year's conference will take place on Tuesday, October 21 and Wednesday, October 22, 2008. Participants should plan to arrive in the evening of October 20 to begin the seminar at 8:30 am on Tuesday morning and plan to checkout Wednesday, October 22nd at 3 pm. We are excited to announce our partnership with the Portland, Maine Police Department and Maine State Police who will host this conference.
This year's conference will focus on The Leadership and Workplace Issues for Women in Law Enforcement. Come hear about the latest research on women and pregnancy; what departments need to do to be more progressive in this area; police officer domestic violence and the response; dual professions; job share-does it work; and what is mass career customization and why aren't police departments doing more of it. Topics will address best practices and the conference will produce a report highlighting specific recommendations.
Our lineup of invited speakers includes Dr. Karen J. Kruger, Department of Law, Harford County, Maryland, Gwen Boniface, former Commissioner of Ontario Provincial Police and currently Deputy Chief Inspector for the Garda Inspectorate, Dublin, Ireland, the women Maine Police Chiefs and the many highly respected women in law enforcement. All criminal justice practioners and law enforcement personnel are encouraged to attend. This is one conference that is too important to miss!
